This past Bungie Day, Bungie Studios has given us our first real glimpse at the second set of Mythic Maps for Halo 3, which will ship exclusively with Halo 3: ODST this fall.

So let's see. New 5 hour expansion Campaign. Check. New Co-Op mode. Check. 3 new Multiplayer Maps. Check. Every other Halo 3 Multiplayer Map. Check. $69.99 plus tax price tag. ... ... Screw that.
Sorry Bungie, but if you want me to buy a retail game, give me a retail game and not an expansion set.

Well, depending on how well they do the co-op mode "Fire Fight", I would probably buy that alone for the retail price. Then again, I've been wanting a game mode like that since Halo 1.

So have I, and don't get me wrong, I have no doubt that Halo 3: ODST will be an excellent stand-alone expansion, and that's just the thing: Firefight or not, it's still just an expansion and _not_ a retail game.
Unless something changes between now and launch (Campaign length doubled, a dozen extra Multiplayer maps added, etc.), Microsoft Game Studios is overcharging by about 40% simply because they know they can.
And if you, I, and everyone else goes out and buys Halo 3: ODST at full retail price, we'll only re-enforce that it's alright for publishers to rip us off on expansion sets, few and far between as they are today.
But that's the mentality of the average gamer today. Publisher releases an overpriced product and we're all over it, lining their pockets.
I completely agree with your reasoning, but really, how many die hard Halo fans do you think could actually resist the buying that game just to make that point. That number is zero. But like I said I completely agree, but for people like us, the best we can do is complain about the price. We're still going to buy it in the end though.
Well, I'm one die hard Halo fan, and I won't be buying it at full retail price. So that's 1. I know several other people as well in the same camp as me, so maybe half a dozen total.
Will roughly 6 people not buying the expansion at launch turn Microsoft Game Studio's collective head and get them to re-evaluate their price model? No, it won't, but the best way for any consumer to show displeasure with a product is to simply not buy it, so that's what I'm going to do, as well as continuing to be vocal on the subject.
I plan on renting Halo 3: ODST on launch week, and if I find it for cheap down the road and still have an interest, then I'll buy it at a fair price.
You're better for it to, I just don't have the willpower to put off buying it.
Why can't you? Is the world going to come to an end if you don't pick it up? Will every copy be sold out and you not be able to buy it a few months to even a few years later?
There's lots of other games to play, so I'm sure you could hold off if you really wanted.
