The first novel set in the Gears of War universe, Gears of War: Aspho Fields, is now in stores.
Written by Karen Traviss and taking place just after Gears of War, the novel deals with the history between franchise leads Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, and the pivotal battle at Aspho Fields years ago that changed the course of the Pendulum Wars in which they fought alongside Dom's brother Carlos.
I just picked the novel up and am a few chapters in. Very, very nice.
