The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Game of the Year Edition Announced

Bethesda Softworks has announced that this September, it will be releasing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Game of the Year Edition for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows platforms.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Game of the Year Edition will feature The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, it's expansion The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles, and Knights of the Nine Downloadable Content/Plug-In.

Existing save games on all platforms will apparently be compatible with this version.

So in short, if you have yet to purchase The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and you'd like to, this is going to be the version for you to get. I suspect that if you already own a copy, however, this will not be cost effective for you unless you own the PlayStation 3 version and want The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles, then you'll need to buy your game again.

I am mixed about this news. Good in that I only have the Oblivion game, so I just wait and there's no need to buy Kinghts & Isles. Bad in that this means that's it for Oblivion. They won't release Game of the Year if they are planning more expansions. So that's it. Must wait for Elder Scrolls V now and with Bethesda working on Fallout 3, that could be a long time coming.

Keep in mind though that Bethesda Softworks already stated they would not be releasing any more expansions for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, though we may see some additional downloadable content.

That being said, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is one of the largest, most detailed game world's I've ever played in, so there is a lot to do, even after a few playthroughs.
